

AFC Asian Cup 2000
The 2000 AFC Asian Cup was the 12th edition of the men’s AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The finals were held in Lebanon between 12 and 29 October 2000.
Indeed Lebanon hosted the tournament for the first time in the country’s history, so the Lebanese team was automatically qualified to this tournament as host. The first stage of the tournament was a group stage, where teams were divided to 3 groups of 4. Lebanon fell in a group with Thailand, Iraq and Iran and ended up last, with 2 points from 2 draws and 1 loss, and therefore, was eliminated from the first round.
The tournament ended with Japan winning it, after defeating Saudi Arabia in the final.
